The Kentlands annual 4th of July Carnival and Parade is right around the corner. A complimentary breakfast in the morning, the traditional parade, followed by the carnival on the lawn featuring inflatables, a balloon artist, wagon rides, music and food, along with a flag retirement ceremony to properly dispose of unserviceable flags.
Community Breakfast & Bike Decorating Station
Similar to last year, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has offered to host an early morning community breakfast for all residents on the Fourth of July. Breakfast will be served at the church starting at 8:30am. There will also be a bike decorating station set up outside of the church starting at 8:15am and running until the parade. Helpers will be available to assist with decorating. The Kentlands Citizens Assembly (KCA) appreciates and thanks The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for their generous contributions.
Floats & Parade
We love to see your patriotism! Decorate your floats, wagons and cars in red, white and blue. Dress up in your most patriotic attire and join us at Rachel Carson Elementary School parking lot. We ask that all floats arrive at Rachel Carson at 9:00 am and all marchers should arrive at 9:15 to begin lining up for the parade to start at 9:45 am. The parade will make its way down Tschiffely Square Road towards the Kentlands Clubhouse Lawn where the carnival will begin at 10 am.
Flag Retirement Ceremony
Do you have an unserviceable flag?! Are you unsure how to dispose of your old flag?! The KCA has made this process easier. We want your retired flags!
The Gaithersburg American Legion 295 will once again be hosting the Flag Retirement Ceremony at 1:00 pm during the carnival. If you currently have a flag that you would like to contribute to this ceremony, it can be dropped off at the Clubhouse front desk with your family name and the street the flag once waved proudly on. Flags will be accepted until July 4th at 12 pm as the flags will need preparation prior to the ceremony. We are accepting flags from not only the Kentlands, but also surrounding communities. Tell your family and friends about this great opportunity to give the nation’s most precious symbol the retirement it deserves.
The KCA appreciates the Legion 295’s participation in the flag retirement ceremony and their service to our country.
